Description:

Mental Health First Aid for Students

The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on students have intensified pre-existing needs for resources that address student mental health. School districts, as partners with its families/communities, stand as pivotal gateways through which student mental health partnerships may be forged. Such partnerships provide benefits for both students and the district. Securing student mental health options extends a lifeline to students and families within a district who may not otherwise have access. In addition, addressing student mental health offers each student an opportunity to maximize his/her full potential for success.

The featured presenter, Leslie Shan (Mental Health First Aid Instructor, Carle Richland Memorial Hospital), will elaborate on an evidence-based initiative called the Mental Health First Aid Program. This program targets teenage students and helps address student mental health challenges. The presenter will, also, share a host of resources and organizational partnerships desiring connections with districts.

As time permits, a question-answer period will follow the featured presentation.
