Performance Evaluation Reform Act (PERA) Training for School Board Members

NOTE: This is not Professional Development Leadership Training (PDLT) - the four hour mandated training for school board members. This course covers the topic of Performance Evaluation Reform Act (PERA) and is designed for members needing this topic only.

Illinois state law (Public Act 097-0008) enacted on June 13, 2011, requires school board members who participate in a vote on a tenured teacher dismissal based upon the Optional Alternative Evaluation Dismissal Process for PERA evaluations to complete this training.

Learning Objectives

This course explains the changes PERA and education reform made to:

  • tenure acquisition,
  • teacher evaluations,
  • intervention requirements,
  • reduction in force, and
  • dismissal.

Completion of this course qualifies a board member to be a PERA-trained board member.

Upon successful completion of this course, the participant will be prompted to print course certificate.  The certificate should be signed and submitted to the school district in order to verify compliance with the statutory training requirement.

Successful completion of this course will count for five Board Leader Recognition Points.
