Description
Illinois School Law Survey is a convenient guide for answering the school legal questions of educators and laymen. The Survey presents answers to more than 1,600 questions in 27 chapters, along with a list of the statutes, rules, and court cases on which the answer is based. The book's popularity stems in part from the guidance it provides in searching for state or federal laws. In addition to an extensive Table of Contents, the Quick Reference Index offers a detailed listing of more narrow topics and where they are discussed in the book.

Questions and answers have been updated to reflect legislation and court decisions from the past two years (to January 1, 2024), and questions have been added to cover new statutes and case law. (Note: Excludes laws unique to Chicago Public School District 299.) A Table of Court Cases makes finding questions about each case easy.

ENJOY THE DIGITAL VERSION — With each print book purchase, you gain access to a dynamic digital version of the entire book. This digital version is not just a replica of the print book, but a keyword-searchable tool that allows you to quickly find the information you need. It also includes links to cited court cases and federal laws, as well as Illinois statutes, rules, and more. A unique code to register for online access is included on the inside cover of each printed book.

The book was originated by the late Brian A. Braun, an attorney with the firm of Miller, Tracy, Braun, Funk & Miller, Ltd., from 1983 to 2023. Prior to that, Brian A. Braun was an attorney on the staff of the Illinois Association of School Boards.

The book is now authored by Brian’s son, David J. Braun, an attorney with the firm of Miller, Tracy, Braun, Funk & Miller, Ltd., since 2007. He is a member of the Illinois Council of School Attorneys and an adjunct professor in the College of Education in the Educational Administration and Foundations Department at Illinois State University.
