This 2024 edition of The Illinois School Code and Related Laws is a publication compiled by LexisNexis for the Illinois Association of School Boards (IASB). It consists of two volumes. Volume 1 contains the School Code. Volume 2 contains numerous other statutes selected for their relevance to public school governance and administration. An index for both Volumes is included in Volume 2.

 

This edition covers legislation enacted as of January 1, 2024.

 

Please note that not all statutes are presented in their entirety here. Although most Acts are complete, IASB staff excerpted some laws in the interest of brevity. For example, portions of The Election Code, The Pension Code, and The Juvenile Court Act are omitted. For a complete version of any of these Acts, see the complete Illinois Compiled Statutes.

 

 

Prior to 2024, this publication was offered as part of a two-year service, which included a Supplement of changes published in the second year. Beginning with this 2024 edition, the publication is offered as a one-time purchase and no Supplement will be issued in 2025. For updates to statutes enacted after January 1, 2024, please refer to the websites listed above. Additionally, IASB publishes “New School Laws,” a digest of state laws impacting Illinois public schools enacted each year; and a “Guide to Illinois Statutes Affecting Schools,” which is compiled by the Illinois Council of School Attorneys and serves as a reference tool for Illinois statutes that are not listed in the School Code but affect Illinois school districts.
